Day 310 – Polar Plunge

9 Feb

I have to take a break from my architecture to post a photo from a shoot I did tonight for a local restaurant. Tumbleweed is very involved with charity work and they have helped out with the Special Olympics for some time. The general managers have a contest every year selling desserts and the winner participates in the Polar Plunge. This year they took it a step further and did a celebrity server night with a silent auction. Local celebrities came to shadow a server and all the tips that were made during that time were donated to the Special Olympics along with 100% of the proceeds from every dessert sold and the money made from the auction.

It was a wonderful cause and very cool to see so many people turn out in support. One of the employees at this particular restaurant location has competed in the Special Olympics for years and he let them borrow all of his medals to decorate the dinning room with and it was awe-inspiring to see how many he has won.

And of course the night wouldn’t be complete without entertainment for the kids so the Polar Plunge Polar Bear showed up to help out. The little kid in the front was so very excited to see the bear that I couldn’t stop going over just to hear him talk about it. It really was a great night!

Here in Jamestown, RI, they call it the Penguin Plunge, but it’s the same idea. It takes place on New Year’s Day, and the event benefits Special Olympics RI. I attended my first one this year. No, I didn’t plunge, but it was a lot of fun.

My sister is going to do the plunge so I will be going to my first one this year too. I can’t even imagine jumping in the water but I will be there cheering her on
