Day 205 – Culbertson Mansion

26 Oct

This is definitely a landmark in our little town and it is the site of one of the many haunted house tours around here each year during Halloween. It is said to really be haunted and while I am not so sure about that I have had many a fun night getting the crap scared out of me roaming through the servants quarters in the back of the mansion.

The Culbertson Mansion is a beautiful old mansion that was built along the Ohio River sometime in the 1860’s and while it has changed colors a few times over the year is has retained its character and integrity. I was rather lucky when I shot this that the sky was dark and cloudy because it is a nice contrast with the building.

With those skies it looks like it could be a haunted mansion. So Halloween.

Nice image all the way around Mindy.

The sky does make the shot! That grey in contrast with the orange is quite staggering!

Why would anyone paint a house orange, though? But it works!

    Great pics, Mindy!

It used to be a pretty yellow and then they painted it that odd color some years back, people freaked out at first but now we are all used to it 🙂

      Thank you THomas 🙂

Seriously!!! I’m fairly confident we could rock this house like no one’s business. This is stunning really. The clouds are perfection, the detailing of the house is gorgeous and everything about this photo just pops.

I need to go buy a thesaurus if I intend to keep commenting on your photos, just sayin’s all.

    • mindymilburn October 28, 2010 at 12:12 pm #

And YES we could rock this house like it wasn’t not thing. I am pretty sure were meant to live in a place like this.

One of my favorite things to do is just go down Main St and look at all the old beautiful mansions.
In 1969 BM (Before Mindy)we lived 2 blocks from the Culbertson Mansion. I was in awe of this house then and I still am. I love to take the tours inside, I have never been to the haunted house though. Mindy it’s time you took your big sister!
This is truly a wonderful photograph to add to your portfolio.
