Day 122 – Reptiles & Amphibians

4 Aug

I love snakes. I know that will come as a surprise to anyone that  has seen me flip out over a tiny bug or a mouse but I seriously love snakes. I think they are beautiful, so when I go to the zoo one of my favorite parts is the reptile and amphibian house (and it is always air conditioned). I am not a big fan of frogs but I got some decent shots of  a couple of little guys and all of this was of course done through glass which messes with the quality a little but I am happy with the ones I chose.

Funny story, I used to HATE snakes. Seriously scared to death of them so much so I wouldn’t even touch a shed snake skin at the zoo on a field trip. So how did I get over it? This guy was walking around downtown one time when I was a teenager with a 6 foot python wrapped around his shoulder and he somehow talked me into touching it and then into letting me put it around my shoulders.  Yeah I think he was Yoda in disguise but it cured me. I couldn’t get over how beautiful it was.

I wanted to share a photo I took last year at the zoo as well because it is one of my favorite photos. The snake had apparently just shed his skin and it was still hanging in the tree when I arrived and I just dig the shot so much I had to share it along with the ones I took this year.

I am sorry if snakes freak you out, feel free to skip to the frog photos 🙂

I admit, I do like my critters fluffy, but you got some great images of the snakes.

And you are absolutely correct, the snake skin rocks.

LOL I like fluffy critters too but I just love snakes for some insane reason.

The upper right shot of the snake is captivating me. I can’t stop looking at it right now. It’s like that snake can see right through me… to get to the “real” me. And it’s frightening.

I bet you that snake knows all my deepest, darkest secrets… like how I’m scared of dolls… go away, little snake! Go away!!!

Love these pics. They’re all very cool to look at. That frog on the branch is nice as well… the natural framing is VERY nice!

Ok, you did freak me out with those shots, and I went through them very very very quickly, but they are incredible. I am going to forward them on to my son, also a reptile lover and a photographer. Again, thanks for the warning!

LOL I know some people hate them. I used to as well. Thanks for sending these on to your son 🙂

Cool shots 🙂 Snakes and reptiles in general are not my favorite part of the zoo. But as long as there’s glass between us, it’s cool. I like your shots. I assume you had to shoot through glass? Good job!

    • mindymilburn August 5, 2010 at 12:56 pm #

LOL, that is how I feel about a lot of the animals 🙂

Fabulous shots! Wow. So, is that first frog blue? Or have I have one too many drinks?

    • mindymilburn August 5, 2010 at 12:57 pm #

Well you might have been drunk but yes it is blue 🙂

Ugh! I do NOT like snakes. Unless they’re behind glass, of course. I love the first photo a whole lot. Just tells a great story.
